Fit for Treatment Study
The Fit for Treatment study aimed to implement and evaluate the effectiveness of a toxicity-targeted intervention during treatment for cancer.
The study was undertaken in 2022 and was aimed at people aged 18 years or more, with cancer and undergoing any cancer treatment.
Participants in the study were randomly allocated (by chance) to either 12-weeks of an exercise intervention or usual care. Participants in the exercise intervention group completed cardiorespiratory/aerobic, resistance, balance and stretching exercises on 3 days of the week; which were individually tailored to each intervention participant.
Participants in both groups were required to undertake assessments both before, during and after the 12-week intervention period.
These assessments were related to cancer-related fatigue, neurotoxicity development, cardiovascular disease risk development and other health measures (e.g. body composition, blood markers, overall body strength, cardiorespiratory fitness).
This study is currently closed.
